After a month of political and judicial uncertainties from a deadlock general election, Samoa’s Head of State declared that the country returns to the polls on 21 May 2021. A day before the intended second general election (may or may not) takes place, this seminar brings together scholars from Apia, Auckland and Canberra to discuss the factors that led to the election stalemate. Moreover, it details the unprecedented process thereafter with a focus on the role of political campaigns, the Samoan diaspora, social media, gender quota, women leaders, and implications for Pacific regionalism and Australia.
