Denghua Zhang became a PhD student with DPA in January 2014. He had a decade long career as a public servant in China before coming to ANU to pursue a higher degree. He worked in the Pacific region for five years including in the Kingdom of Tonga and New Zealand respectively. He is strongly interested in the area of foreign aid and development.
Currently, he is doing his PhD research on China’s foreign aid, trilateral aid cooperation in particular, to the Asia-Pacific region including the Pacific Islands countries. With his previous working experience in the Pacific, he is quite interested in doing research on the economic and social development of these islands countries. He also has great interest in international relations.
