2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the State, Society and Governance in Melanesia Program’s establishment and the 70th anniversary of Pacific studies at the Australian National University (ANU). On 1 August 1946, the Bill establishing ANU was passed by the Australian Parliament, and with it the Research School of Pacific Studies (RSPacS) was founded.
The second year under our enhanced funding agreement with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), has seen us strengthen and consolidate our staff and student profile, as well as our research activities and our policy engagement.
The State, Society & Governance in Melanesia Program has established itself as a regional public good, offering research, analytical work and advice to policy makers in Australia and the region. 2013/14, the first full year under our expanded funding agreement with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), has been a busy year for SSGM.
